The Olympic flame comes down from the mountain top, with the ideals it represents to be presented to and shared by everyone
I [Roger] hereby declare
“An Olympian’s Challenge”
You are to fulfill the Olympic motto, citius, altius, fortius, communiter
On your bike you will ride swifter (citius) average tempo, higher (altius) faster up a hill, and stronger (fortius) in sprint.
In taking up this challenge you will, by extension of sharing your results, also fulfill the fourth condition of the motto, “Communiter” bringing together everyone’s experiences.
The Rules:
RULE #1 – OBEY ALL RULES
There are three elements of the Olympic Motto:
- Citius: Swifter (choose a distance 2km or longer)
- Altius: Higher (choose a hill with ave. grade over 3%)
- Fortius: Stronger (choose a sprint 1km or less)
For each element:
1. Specify your choice for each element
2. Present an initial-time for that element (in 2024)^
3. Between May 21 and August 11, 2024 ride and record a better-timethan the initial-time for that element.
^The initial-time may be done anytime in 2024; but before your better-time
For each of the three elements you achieve a better-time you will be awarded* a valuable prize!
Similar to Roger's Cups, these small cups can be used on your tool bench, kitchen counter, or anywhere else you need to contain a couple oz's of anything.
For each element there's a different cup: Gold for Citius, Silver for Altius, and Bronze for Fortius.
You may enter each element individually.
ENTRIES: e-mailed to youngstraining@gmail.com or via OnForm chat or hand to me when I see ya!
Entries should show for each of the three elements:
- The ride specification (i.e. route or venue)
- Your initial -time and date
- Your better-time and later date
- You can use a road, off road routes, or ZWIFT segments
- You can use velodrome distance vs times (not for Altius)
- Initial-time must be in 2024 (and before the better-time)
- You may enter only one result for each of the 3 elements
Send your entries to:
youngstraining@gmail.com , On-Form message “chat”, or can give me your entry in-person .
*If you are not from L.A.; include an address to send your award(s)
WHAT DOES AN ENTRY LOOK LIKE?
In your e-mail, OnForm message, or in-person, you note the route/segment name, the date of initial-time, and the date of the better-time.
Citius (example)
G-Park Loop [4/9/24 = 1:02.15] [7/10/24 = 59.47]
Altius (example)
Royce to Cathy’s Corner [5/19/24 = 5:09] [8/2/24 = 4:59]
Fortius (example)
Monument Ave. Sprint [6/3/24 = 18”] [7/22/24 = 17”]
tip: Strava can be used to search for element/segments and compare them for one's done in 2024, a simple way to show an element's initial and better times. The better times will appear as PR's (personal records)...
Here's a nice Strava example of a Citius entry (May 19 is an accepted early entry):
Again; entries can be simple text or any other form dipicting each element and your success in bettering its initial (2024) time.
